FROM THE HEAD OF THE LAKE, AND THE HEART OF THE MOUNTAINS, A CRAFT BEER WITH A SOUL LIKE NO OTHER
Glenorchy, New Zealand

Big mountains.
Small brewery.
Medium cool.
We don’t aim to be the coolest, hippest brewery in New Zealand. We’ll leave that to the big-city-robot-science wunderkinds (and, let’s face it, even using the word ‘hippest’ probably rules us out). Instead, we simply concentrate on making delicious beer.
Surrounded by mountains, and with vistas of Paradise and the Rees River, we’re not exaggerating when stating we have the best brewery view in the country. This scenery also plays a big role in the beer – it’s from the heart of these mountains that our glacier-fresh aquifer delivers pure mineral water. Yes, it can be occasionally challenging brewing here. The water (and the weather) is often ice cold. But sometimes, as a great man once said, that’s better than being cool.

THE
BREWMAN

Tucked away on a remote plot, our lead brewer Steve and his wife Kath share their life with a happy menagerie, which includes VIP (Very Important Pet) Duke the dog, several sheep, a clutch of chickens and a thousand or so bees.
With a life goal to be self-sufficient, the couple keep busy with extensive vegetable gardens and a love for foraging in the alpine wilderness that surrounds their home. Those mountains feed their soul, and are the site for plenty of favourite activities, from tramping, skiing, and touring, to biking, hunting, and walking Duke.
When he’s not on the trails Steve brings his background in engineering and project management to the art of brewing. Working with a prodigious attention to detail and an unwavering focus on the perfect end-result, he now brews to meet the uncompromising demands of the educated Kiwi beer drinker. It can sometimes be challenging meeting these demands without compromising the sustainable ethos at the heart of the brewery. But Steve wouldn’t have it any other way.
